Competition Format
There are several changes being to the program in 2024 with the aim of making the competition engaging and beneficial for players. Returning players will note two key differences in the format this year
- There are no pre-set teams
- The leader-board will be based on individual players
Competition Format Rounds 1 thru 6
For players participating in the program, the first 6 sessions will consist of a warm-up, a 5-a-side match and a skills-training session, which is held at the half-time break
- Teams will be decided at the commencement of each training session by random allocation
- Team size will typically be 5-7 players, based on player availability
- Teams will be paired and play against each other in a 5-a-side match, consisting of 2 x 20 minute halves, with a 20 minute training break
Round 7 - Finals
Round 7 will be used for "finals" and will determine which players/team wins the overall competition. The format for Round 7 will be as follows:
- At commencement, attending players will be sorted by their leader-board ranking (top to bottom) and then split into top-half and lower-half
- Based on ranking number, Final 1 will consist of even-numbered players from the top half playing against odd-numbered players from the top half of the group
- Based on ranking number, Final 2 will consist of even-numbered players from the lower half playing against odd-numbered players from the lower half of the group
Number of teams and team sizes will be adjusted based on available players
The overall competition winner is the team that wins its Finals match by the largest goal difference. Note that this means that the winner of the "lower-half" match can win the competition outright. If there is a goal-difference tie, then the winning team will be decided by a penalty shoot-out
Competition Scoring
Points are earned by players in 4 ways:
- Match Points - Players earn 3 points if their team wins, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. These are referred to as match-points
- Challenge Points - There will be a weekly challenge. This will sometimes be an individual challenge, and sometimes this will be a team-based challenge. The coaches will award a point for individuals who complete/win these challenges
- Attendance Points - Players earn a point for every session they attend
- Coaches Points - From time-to-time, the coaches may award an additional point for individual's outstanding performance in a game. The primary focus of the coaches in awarding these points is teamwork
Leader board
A leader board will be updated weekly on this site, showing the top 15 players and the breakdown of their points. Ranking on the leader board will be based on the following rules:
- The person with the most points is ranked highest
- Where two or more players have the same overall points, then the player with the highest match-points is ranked higher
- Where two or more players have the same match points, then the player from the lower age-group competition is ranked higher (eg U15 ranks above U18)
- In the unlikely event of players being tied, then alphabetical precedence of surname will decide who is ranked higher
